DOTD moves forward with road repairs funded with additional $67.5 million

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is moving forward with roadway repairs made possible with additional $67.5 million, which equates to $7.5 million per District.

DOTD first announced this funding in August, which was appropriated by the Legislature for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

The roadway repairs are being completed via a combination of work done by DOTD in-house maintenance crews and outside contracts.

These repairs are in full swing in several regions, including the northeast (Monroe) and central (Alexandria). For example, highways such as LA 577 and US 65 in East Carroll and Madison Parishes have undergone improvements in the form of asphalt overlays and extensive patching. Similarly, in Morehouse Parish LA 140 was identified as a route to be improved with this additional funding.

Repairs to LA 553, LA 838, and LA 3033 in Ouachita Parish have also been completed, are underway, or are planned in the next few weeks. And in Richland Parish, LA 585 is undergoing repairs.

In the central region, numerous routes are getting a boost in the form of tree removal, asphalt overlays, and asphalt patching. In Rapides Parish, several trees have been removed from LA 8, and in Natchitoches Parish, a stretch of LA 490 is much improved through an asphalt overlay.

Roadway striping and pavement markings are also being replaced on a number of highways, including LA 120, LA 174, LA 191. LA 475, LA 479, LA 1215, LA 1271, and LA 1218 in Sabine and Natchitoches Parishes.

Vernon Parish saw repairs on LA 111 and LA 392 with DOTD crews laying new asphalt on sections of those roadways. Work is also planned in Avoyelles Parish for LA 107 and LA 105.

In the east central area (Chase), realignment efforts on LA 559 are underway to address a river slide. Other repairs are complete on LA 849 and LA 845 in Caldwell Parish, and LA 125 in LaSalle Parish and LA 128 in Franklin Parish are next in line for additional repair work.

Numerous other routes are slated for upcoming improvements across these regions, as well as the northwest area. An asphalt overlay project to improve LA 1 (Youree Drive) from Southfield Road north to Stoner Avenue in Shreveport is currently in development.

As those repairs are complete, DOTD will share those achievements.
