DOTD updates the public on projects that may impact school traffic in the Greater New Orleans area

New Orleans, LA—The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises motorists of some projects in the metro area that may impact travel times as schools return to session.
Current projects on state and federal routes that may impact school traffic for August 2024:
Crescent City Connection Decorative Lighting Project (US 90B/I-910):
Timeline: Through the end of August. Lane restrictions are scheduled to end by September 1, opening up all travel lanes. The project will continue through the end of the year.
Lane Restrictions (through the end of August):
· The lanes on the far left of each bridge are closed as contractors work to install the lights.
· The Magazine St. on-ramp is closed.
· East bank-bound drivers will not have morning access to the HOV lanes through Sunday, August 11. Beginning August 12, east bank-bound HOV lanes will be fully accessible.
Suggested Alternate Route: The Huey P. Long Bridge (US 90).
Estimated Project Completion Date: January 2025.
Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge Repairs (LA 1264)
Timeline: Through the end of August. The bridge is scheduled to reopen to total traffic by September 1.
Lane Restrictions:
· The bridge is currently closed in both directions for repairs.
Suggested Alternate Route: Chef Menteur Hwy. (US 90)/I-10.
Estimated Project Completion Date: August 31, 2024.
Jefferson Highway Resurfacing & Drainage Project (LA 48 – Williams to Clearview)
Timeline: Through August 2024.
Lane Restrictions:
· Daily lane closures from 9 AM – 3 PM.
Suggested Alternate Route: Airline Hwy. (US 61).
Estimated Project Completion Date: August 31, 2024.
Williams Blvd. Corridor Improvements (LA 49 – I-10 to W. Metairie)
Timeline: Through December 2024.
Lane Restrictions:
· Daily lane closures from 9 AM – 3 PM.
Suggested Alternate Route(s): Please use the 511la app or 511la.org website for alternate routes.
Estimated Project Completion Date: December 2024.
Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation Project (US 90B)
Timeline: Eastbound tunnel closure through December 2024.
Lane Restrictions:
· Full closure of the eastbound tunnel.
· The westbound tunnel is open to traffic.
Suggested Alternate Route: US 90B/I-910 elevated expressway.
Estimated Project Completion Date: December 2026.
