DOTD Announces Upcoming I-12 Closure for College Drive Flyover Project
Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10:23:06 AM
Baton Rouge, La- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that all lanes of I-12 east between the I-10/I-12 split and Essen Lane will be closed overnight next Monday. This closure is necessary to facilitate the removal of an old overpass located directly above the interstate. The old overpass, previously part of I-10 west, needs to be dismantled to begin the widening of a new, adjacent overpass that is already in service. This is a crucial aspect of the ongoing College Drive Flyover project. The concrete and metal from the old overpass will be recycled.

I-12 Eastbound:
  • Full closure from 10 p.m. Monday, May 20 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 21.
Detour Information:
Traffic on I-10 eastbound wishing to take I-12 eastbound will continue on I-10 eastbound and take exit 160 (Essen Ln.), proceeding north (left turn) and continuing to the I-12 eastbound ramp. We encourage motorists to familiarize themselves with the detour information prior to the closure to minimize any inconvenience.

In the event of inclement weather, the full closure and removal operations will be rescheduled for the following night.

Safety reminder:
DOTD appreciates your patience and we would like to remind drivers to exercise caution and drive with care through construction sites. Please be mindful of work crews and their equipment, and adhere to all posted signage and speed limits.
