Reminder: Lane closures on the CCC for the Decorative Lighting Project begin Tuesday evening.
New Orleans—The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the first phase of intermediate-term lane closures on the US 90 Business Crescent City Connection Bridges (CCC) associated with the $21 million CCC Decorative Lighting Project. This significant project is currently under construction and will replace the existing decorative lighting system with programmable LED lighting on both CCC Mississippi River crossings.
The contractor will begin implementing the first phase of closures of the west bank-bound right lane of the main span and the Tchoupitoulas Street entrance ramp on the night of Tuesday, April 30. Implementations for the east bank-bound right lane closure will begin Thursday, May 2.
A detour will be provided via the Magazine Street on-ramp for drivers who traditionally use the Tchoupitoulas on-ramp. The east bank-bound Tchoupitoulas exit ramp will be unaffected.
This closure is necessary for work crews to safely install electrical conduits and wiring for the new lighting system.
After the first phase of lane closures concludes in July, the second phase will commence and involve closing the left lanes of each main span, westbound and eastbound, and the entrance ramp from Tchoupitoulas Street. The second phase will last through the middle of August 2024.
In addition, this project has implemented an innovative traffic management system to assist drivers during lane closures. It features digital message signs to inform motorists in real time of changing conditions ahead, such as slowing or stopping traffic.
Frischhertz Electric Co. of New Orleans is constructing the project. Weather permitting, the estimated completion date is early 2025.
