UPDATE - DOTD crews working as weather continues to create hazardous conditions
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises the traveling public that while many roadways have been cleared, it’s important to keep in mind that road conditions can change quickly as severe weather develops.
DOTD crews have been working tirelessly to clear trees from dozens of routes, monitor water and place high water signs, repair downed traffic signals, and conduct other severe weather response operations.
The below list is a broad overview of the widespread impact to highways across the state from overnight last night and into today, April 10, 2024.

Construction Debris:
- Ouachita Parish: I-20 at LA 151 overpass - High winds caused panels and equipment to hang over traffic lanes below, and lightning delayed clean-up efforts. Traffic was diverted onto the interstate ramps to bypass around the issue. The diversion put in place on Tuesday (4/9) night, and reopened just before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday (4/10) morning.
High water continues to impact numerous routes. Warning signs are put into place, and while water can recede quickly, DOTD strongly urges motorists weather, drivers should be aware be aware of and adhere to the following tips:
- Do not drive, unless you must.
- Do not drive through standing water. “Turn around, don’t drown.”
- Avoid driving through areas with downed power lines or other debris.
- Never use cruise control when visibility is low or the road is wet.
- Plan for more travel time.
- Leave extra room between vehicles.
- Alwys use headlights when windshield wipers are on. This is a law.
- Never move or drive around any road closed signs/barricades for any reason. This is unlawful and extremely unsafe.
In the event flooding occurs, personnel will make the appropriate decisions to close roadways when safe to do so and resources are available, close moveable bridges, and suspend or reduce the ferry services for the safety of the traveling public.
