St. James Parish- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces an update for the LA 20 Bayou Chevreuil Bridge replacement project in St. James Parish.
Construction on this project was suspended due to the original contractor defaulting on the contract. The representative bonding company has finalized agreements in selecting the completion contractor, JB James Construction, to finish the remaining work on the permanent bridge. Crews have begun site access work in preparation for full mobilization the week of January 29, 2024. The completion contractor has estimated a total of 255 working days, or 15 months, excluding weather/holidays, to execute the remaining work items. Updates related to timelines and traffic configurations will be provided routinely as needed.
This $11.6 million project will replace the current bridge over Bayou Chevreuil with a new wider and longer structure that will be built along the same horizontal alignment as the current one. This bridge replacement is needed in order to tie into the active safety improvement project, which is widening LA 20 approximately three miles in St. James and Lafourche parishes. Both contractors will coordinate their construction efforts around these two projects.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through construction sites, and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
