PROJECT UPDATE – LA 1 (Caddo Lake) Bridge replacement project, Caddo Parish
SHREVEPORT – A new crossing over Caddo Lake on LA 1 in Mooringsport recently hit a milestone with all the concrete pile foundations now in place for the new $17.2 million structure. The concrete piles are posts or columns that are driven into the water to support the bridge.
Additionally, the contractor is currently in the process of pouring concrete for the bridge deck, which makes up the driving surface.
Work is also underway on completing the bent caps, which sit atop the piles and help distribute pressure as vehicles travel across the bridge.
Once the caps are finished, the contractor will move to the installation of the girders. Girders are beams that serve to support the bridge deck.
Future work following the completion of the structure itself includes construction of the approach slabs for the roadway to tie into the bridge, installation of barrier rail, permanent roadway striping, and signage.
The bridge serves as an important connector between the Towns of Mooringsport and Oil City, as well as points north and south. The original structure, which was built in 1940, was removed last year.
The entire project is anticipated to wrap up in Fall 2024, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
