NOW OPEN - I-55 Southbound in Manchac has been reopened.
St. John the Baptist Parish - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces updated information for I-55 in St. John the Baptist Parish.
The following time estimates are weather-dependent and subject to change.
- I-55 southbound and northbound will re-open to full traffic next week. A full closure of I-55 southbound is planned for Sunday. Drivers should anticipate Sunday traffic delays and allow extra time for safe travel.
I-55 Southbound: Major repairs have been completed at this time. DOTD anticipates closing both lanes of I-55 southbound near Ponchatoula starting at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023, for crews to finish striping and remove traffic control devices used during emergency repairs. During this time, drivers will be detoured at exit 22 (Service Rd) onto Old US 51 and may enter I-55 southbound toward New Orleans at exit 7 (Ruddock). I-55 southbound will remain open through Sunday morning, with lane closures temporarily near Manchac.
I-55 Northbound: Major concrete work on the repaired deck has been completed. DOTD anticipates crews will complete barrier rail repair and begin restriping through the weekend. Final cleanup and painting of the fixed barrier rail will follow. Until repairs are finished, northbound travelers will continue using Old US-51 as an alternate route.
DOTD thanks the public for its patience and will release updated information once repairs are complete.
