ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. – Today, DOTD announced updates for the La. 31 and La. 353 projects in St. Martin Parish.
La. 353 OVERLAY
Awarded to Prairie Construction, the $11.2 million La. 353 pavement preservation involves reconstructing a two-lane roadway for approximately 6.56 miles from La. 94 to Cypress Island Highway.
Currently, the contractor is conducting embankment work, and continuing the installation of asphalt drives and mailbox aprons.
Next week, crews will begin replacing guardrail aprons and guardrails at bridges, as well as installing aggregate shoulders, base drains, rumble strips and striping.
The project began February 2023 and is estimated to be complete in November of 2023.
La. 31 OVERLAY
The $5.25 million La. 31 overlay project involves the overlay of a three-mile section of La. 31 from 0.899 miles south of La. 92 to 0.15 miles north of La. 96. This project was awarded to Glenn Lege Construction, LLC.
With completion in sight, crews are continuing to work to overlay the heavily traveled thoroughfare that runs through the heart of St. Martinville.
Currently crews are continuing with asphalt paving operations on Main St.
Next week crews will begin installing a roadway reinforcing mesh along La. 31 (Main St.) followed by an asphalt wearing course.
Crews will continue milling and paving the remaining portions of the roadway to the end of the project limits.
Once pavement work is complete, future work includes driveway connections, turnouts, handicap ramps, mailboxes, as well as striping and pavement marker installation.
The La. 31 project is estimated for completion in January 2024.
