Reminder: DOTD advises drivers to be cautious when driving near Bayou Sauvage Refuge wildfires

Reminder (08/17/2023): Bayou Sauvage Refuge area wildfires in eastern New Orleans are still producing smoke that could limit visibility to drivers when traveling through the area.


New Orleans
– The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises drivers to be cautious when driving near the Bayou Sauvage Refuge wildfires in eastern New Orleans. While there is no threat to the public from the fires at this time, smoke from the blaze could limit visibility on nearby roads.

Roads that could potentially be affected by visibility are:
· US 11 between Irish Bayou and US 90 (Chef Menteur Hwy)
· US 90 (Chef Menteur Hwy) from I-510 to Venetian Isles
· I-10 between I-510 and the Twin Span

Drivers should do the following if visibility is limited:
· Drive slowly and carefully
· Limit any distractions
· Allow for extra time
· Create plenty of room between vehicles
· Avoid using cruise control
