St. James Parish- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that an emergency contract was awarded to C.E.C. Inc. to maintain the detour bridge along LA 20 over Bayou Chevreuil in St. James Parish.

The contractor will be responsible for the maintenance of the bridge, which includes the asphalt approaches and temporary traffic control until the original project to construct a new bridge resumes. Bridge inspections have been completed and crews will begin to replace the raised pavement markers and add material to the asphalt approaches within the coming weeks.

Construction on this project was suspended earlier this year due to the original contractor defaulting on the contract. DOTD is currently revising the original plans of the project and will re-bid the bridge replacement project, though a letting date has not yet been set. Once this is completed, an updated timeline for the completion of the project will be given.

This $11.6 million project will replace the current bridge over Bayou Chevreuil with a new wider and longer structure that will be built along the same horizontal alignment as the current one.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through construction sites, and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
