Lane closure: US 165 SB and NB at LA 101 – Jefferson Davis Parish

Jefferson Davis Parish – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that construction is set to begin on SP H.013255 US 165: 0.85 MI N I-10 – ALLEN P/L. This project will construct a J-turn intersection at US 165 and LA 101, which will consist of new turn lanes both Southbound and Northbound on US 165 at LA 101.
Once construction is completed, the J-turn intersection at US 165 and LA 101 will function as shown in the image below. It will require LA 101 traffic at US 165 to make right turns only onto US 165 and then U-turn at the median openings down the road. Making the U-turn allows traffic to then access the opposing direction of US 165 and either remain on US 165 or turn right onto LA 101.
The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left turns and through movements by LA 101 and Witherwax Road travelers. All vehicles traveling on LA 101 and approaching US 165 will be required to turn right and then, if desired, make a U-turn at a median opening down the road. Making the U-turn allows traffic to then access the opposite direction of US 165 and remain on US 165 or turn right onto LA 101.
The project will also consist of patching, milling and overlaying the asphalt pavement on US 165 Southbound from the Allen Parish line to 0.85 miles north of I-10.
Daytime closures:
- LA 101 Eastbound and Westbound crossover at US 165 will be daytime closures starting Monday, June 26, 2023.
- The left lanes of US 165 Southbound and US 165 Northbound, along with the left turn lanes at LA 101, will have daytime closures, starting Monday, June 26.
24-hour closure:
- These closures are necessary for the contractor to perform saw cutting along the existing US 165 shoulders. Once the shoulders are removed, these closures will be in effect 24 hours a day until construction at the US 165 and LA 101 intersection is complete.
NOTE: The image below is for reference only to provide a better understanding of a J-turn intersection.

Safety reminder: DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
