Cameron Parish – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that progress is being made to repair the Superior Canal Bridge on LA 82. The engineering design of the repairs is anticipated to be complete by the end of this week. Having a design in hand, the onsite contractor, C.E.C. Inc., will finalize procurement and fabrication of the needed bridge parts.
C.E.C. Inc. has already conducted an onsite review of the bridge parts needing repair. C.E.C. Inc. is scheduling equipment, manpower, and other materials needed to conduct the repairs in the quickest manner possible. All preparation work will be completed prior to bridge parts delivery in an effort to minimize the closure duration.
The Superior Canal Bridge was closed on June 7, 2023, after a field inspection revealed the need for structural repairs. The bridge will remain closed until the repairs are complete.
DOTD will issue an update once an anticipated date of opening is determined.
C.E.C. Inc. was awarded the contract for Project H.014549 with a bid of $1,956,116 in October 2022. The project will conduct repairs caused by Hurricane Laura to Grand Chenier and Superior Bridges mechanical components, electrical components, bridge operator house, and structural members.
