DOTD to adjust speed limit on section of LA 1243 (McKeithen Dr.) in Alexandria
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that the speed limit on a section of LA 1243 (McKeithen Drive) in Alexandria, Rapides Parish will be adjusted.
The speed limit on LA 1243 from LA 488 to a point approximately 2.3 miles north (near Security Mobile Shredding, Inc.) will be increased from 45 mph to 55 mph.
The new speed limit is scheduled to go into effect on Monday, November 7, 2022.
The remainder of LA 1243 to its intersection with LA 28 will remain 45 mph.
This decision comes after a traffic study was conducted that supported adjusting the speed limit on this particular portion of LA 1243.
Studies show that when the majority of motorists are traveling at the same speed, traffic flow improves and the potential for crashes is reduced.
DOTD always strongly encourages drivers to operate their vehicles responsibly, adhere to the posted speed limit, eliminate distractions, and never drive while impaired.
