Baton Rouge, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that toll collectors have returned to the LA 1 toll booth in Leeville. The booth was temporarily not staffed due to the unsafe weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Claudette. Any travelers without a GeauxPass account who passed through the toll booth during the absence of toll collectors will be mailed a bill for the toll amount only and will not be fined.
While the storm is moving out of the area, DOTD urges motorists to stay off the roads during hazardous driving conditions. If you must drive, please adhere to the following tips:
- Do not drive distracted.
- Turn around and do not drive through water. “Turn around, don’t drown.”
- Be aware of wind gusts.
- Avoid driving through areas with downed lines or other debris.
- Never use cruise control when visibility is low or the road is wet.
- Plan for more travel time.
- Leave extra room between vehicles.
- Always use headlights when windshield wipers are on. It is a law.
- Never move any road closed signs.
