DOTD provides update on the ongoing final debris removal pass in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the ongoing final debris removal pass is expected to be complete in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes soon. DOTD has been removing and disposing of vegetative and construction and demolition debris from state right of way that is related to 2020 hurricane season.

DOTD anticipates the ongoing final pass in Allen, Beauregard, and Cameron Parishes to be complete by the end of March 2021. The ongoing final pass for Calcasieu Parish is anticipated to be complete by the end of April 2021. DOTD previously announced the completion of debris removal in Jefferson Davis Parish.

Crews began debris pickup on August 31, 2020, for the Southwest region, which includes Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis Parishes, after impacts from Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta. To date, contractors have removed a total of 2.1 million cubic yards of debris in Southwest Louisiana. A total of 3.2 million cubic yards of hurricane debris has been removed statewide.

As the final debris passes conclude, DOTD advises residents to stop placing debris in state right-of-way. Any new debris placed on state roadways after the start of the final passes will have to be removed through normal means and will not be removed by state contractors. All other solid waste should be handled through the normal means of disposal.

DOTD would like to remind citizens of the following important tips for assisting the debris removal process.
  • State contractors are only able to remove debris from state right-of-way.
  • Dark colored bagged debris will not be removed.
  • Please do not put debris on power lines, fire hydrants, utility stub outs or anything that would hinder the claw that grabs the debris.
