Lafayette, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), in coordination with Lafayette Consolidated Government, announced today that median lighting along Johnston Street (U.S. 167), from LA 724 (Duhon Rd) to just south of E. Broussard, will be temporarily removed to allow construction crews to continue work on the $14 million access management project.
Removal of median lighting is estimated to begin Thursday, March 11, 2021, weather depending.
“Removal of the lighting is necessary in order to complete this much- needed project. While we understand the absence of lighting will be a temporary inconvenience, we are making ourselves available to assist LCG as they develop plans to relocate and reinstall lighting once the project is complete,” said DOTD District Administrator Michael DeSelle.
“LCG is committed to the project and the reinstallation of the street light. We have hired an engineer, who is currently designing the system, and are in the process of securing funding for the relocation and reinstallation,” Traffic, Roads and Bridges Director Warren Abadie said.
The access management project involves the construction of U-Turns, U and Left Turns, Left Turns, and Right Turns along U.S. 167 beginning approximately 250 feet north of the U.S. 167 and W. Vincent Street intersection in Vermilion Parish and extending north to the U.S. 167 and LA 3073 (Ambassador Caffery Parkway) intersection in Lafayette Parish. U.S. 167 is also being overlain as part of the project.
The project will consist of removal of the existing surface and stabilized base, cold planing, patching, application of a class II base course, and superpave asphaltic concrete. Associated work will include related drainage work, erosion control, connection of concrete drives and turnouts, pavement striping, and installation of traffic signage.
The project is estimated for completion by fall 2022.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
