UPDATE - REOPENED: Jackson Street Bridge (US 165 Business), Alexandria, Rapides Parish

UPDATE: The Jackson Street Bridge has been lowered and is now open to vehicular traffic.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that the Jackson Street Bridge (US 165 Bus.) over the Red River in Alexandria, Rapides Parish is currently in the raised position due to a southbound barge that is unable to pull through the river current approaching the passageway. For safety purposes, the bridge deck needs to stay in the raised position in case the barge breaks loose.

Another boat has been dispatched to aid the vessel safely through the bridge opening. It is anticipated that the barge will be able to pass through and the bridge lowered back down in the next couple of hours.

Alternate Route: Motorists are encouraged to cross the river via the US 165 Curtis Coleman Bridge or the US 167 Purple Heart Bridge.
