US 61: Bayou Manchac & Bayou Francois Bridges, Intermittent Lane Closures and New Traffic Pattern, East Baton Rouge & Ascension Parishes

Construction has begun for State Project H.000337 US 61: Bayou Manchac & Bayou Francois Bridges, East Baton Rouge & Ascension Parishes for a length of 1.490 miles. The type of work is clearing and grubbing, removal of bridges, grading, drainage structures, class II base course, lime treatment, pavement patching, milling asphalt concrete, asphalt concrete pavement, riprap, flexible revetment, precast concrete barrier, temporary detour roads, precast concrete piles, concrete slab span bridge, precast pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, temporary detour bridge (concrete) and related work.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists of upcoming lane closure at Bayou Manchac Bridge on US 61 (Airline Hwy.) 1 mile North of LA 427 (Perkins Rd.). Beginning January 9, 2020 the right southbound lane on US 61 will close and traffic will shift to the left southbound lane intermittently. This closure is necessary to allow the contractor to complete the striping on the detour road and bridge in preparation to shift traffic onto the temporary bridge. Motorists are to remain in this configuration for the duration of the replacement of both southbound and northbound bridges. The replacement of both the southbound/northbound bridges is anticipated to be completed in the Spring of 2021.
DOTD will continually update on lane restrictions.
No vehicles wider than 10’ will be allowed to pass through US 61 southbound, during this phase which is expected to last until Spring of 2021.
