Winter weather causes statewide road closures

Baton Rouge, La.- Road conditions deteriorated through the night due to below freezing temperatures and additional winter precipitation. Ice has accumulated on many roads causing hazardous driving conditions. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development would like to remind people to only drive if absolutely necessary. Traveling is discouraged due to the winter weather conditions.
Many roads, such as Interstates 10, 12 and 220 and US 190 are closed through multiple parishes. Check 511la.org for latest information.
Conditions are changing rapidly and additional roads could be closed. Also, sunshine and warmer temperatures during the day do not necessarily mean roads are clear of ice.
