DOTD announces improvement project for section of LA 1 in Avoyelles Parish

AVOYELLES PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a $5.1 million project to improve and repair a portion of LA 1 in Simmesport, Avoyelles Parish.

Work on the project is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 2, 2026, and stretches from Atchafalaya River Bridge to the intersection of Rosewood Crossing (approx. 5 miles of repairs).

The project includes full-depth base repairs, milling to remove the old asphalt, new asphalt paving, new roadway striping, and related work.

Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures on LA 1 to allow construction activities to proceed safely and efficiently. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to advance warning signage, lowered speed limits, and crews & equipment on site.

All work on the project is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2027, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

The project was awarded to R.J. Daigle & Sons Contractors, Inc.

Lane restrictions: DOTD advises motorists that a 16 foot lane width restriction for this project has been implemented.

All vehicles larger than 16 feet will need to utilize an alternate route.

This project was made possible by funding allocated from the Louisiana Transportation Infrastructure Fund (LTIF) voted on by the
State Legislature.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
