Construction Set to Begin on I-49 Preservation Project in Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes

LAFAYETTE & ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction will begin on a major preservation project along Interstate 49, spanning from Interstate 10 to the St. Landry Parish line. Work is scheduled to start on April 6, 2026, with an estimated completion in summer 2027.
The $43 million project will improve approximately 8.91 miles of I-49 in Lafayette and St. Landry Parishes. With an average daily traffic volume of 85,174 vehicles, this corridor is a critical route for motorists, commerce, and regional connectivity.
Project Scope The project includes grading, milling of existing asphalt concrete, pavement patching, installation of roadway reinforcing mesh, asphalt concrete overlay, and related roadway improvements.
Lane Closure Information A detailed schedule of lane closures associated with this project will be released in advance of any work requiring traffic impacts. Motorists are encouraged to monitor DOTD communication channels for updates and plan travel accordingly.
