RAMP REOPENED: I-20 eastbound off-ramp to Benton Road, Bossier Parish BOSSIER CITY – As the $128 million I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City continues to make progress toward official completion, the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development announces that the final ramp has been REOPENED to traffic.
The I-20 eastbound off-ramp to LA 3 (Benton Road) is now open to traffic following extensive reconstruction work on the roadway approaching the overpass.
This ramp opening signifies that ALL interchange ramps are officially open from Benton Road to Industrial Drive.
Additionally, there will only be relatively short, intermittent lane closures along the project (from near Hamilton Rd. to Industrial Dr.) for necessary activities going forward. This means that both travel lanes in each direction will be open to travel for much of the time, with the exception of condensed areas near the Industrial Drive and Hamilton Road interchanges.
The contractor is currently working on final items such as roadway expansion joints, overhead sign installation, seeding, street lighting and other smaller tasks that may require brief lane closures to ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public.
Upcoming work includes applying permanent roadway striping along the entire project and all the interchanges, an operation that is anticipated to take several weeks to complete.
All work on the project is anticipated to wrap up by late March/early April 2026, with much of the tasks heavily dependent on weather conditions.
Keep up with the latest progress updates and activities at the I-20 project webpage here.
Special note:
At this time, the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) prohibition will remain in effect due to narrow lane widths at certain locations within the work zone. This is enforced under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:327 from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive (both directions). CMV drivers must continue to utilize the primary detour of I-220.
Safety reminder:
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
