New College Drive Exit Ramps Set to Open
Monday, April 21, 2025 at 11:18:55 AM
Baton Rouge, LA- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the new College Drive exit ramps from I-10 and I-12 westbound will officially open at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23.

These new exit ramps will streamline access to College Drive, allowing drivers to exit from both interstates without navigating through multiple lanes of traffic. This enhancement will also benefit drivers continuing beyond College Drive as they will no longer face vehicles exchanging lanes to reach the exit.

The I-12 westbound exit to College Drive is positioned just prior to the I-10/I-12 merge, while the I-10 exit will be located on the flyover bridge above I-12, also before the merge. Both exits will be accessible from the right-hand side of the interstates.

Traffic merging from both exit ramps will converge north of I-10 westbound, separated from interstate traffic by concrete barriers. The lanes leading to the College Drive exit are already configured for final use.

DOTD reminds drivers on I-10 and I-12 westbound that access to College Drive will be exclusively via the new exit ramps before the I-10/I-12 merge, as the previous I-10 exit located between the merge and College Drive will be closed.

Construction crews will be installing new permanent barriers along I-10 westbound at the former exit site. While this work will not disrupt westbound traffic, it will necessitate a temporary closure of the left lane in the newly merged exit lanes. This closure will extend approximately 1,000 feet from the old exit location, beginning Wednesday morning and expected to last several weeks.

Additionally, the Essen Lane on-ramp to I-12 westbound is anticipated to reopened Thursday morning pending the completion of overheard truss work scheduled for Wednesday night.

The new exit marks the final major construction milestone of the College Drive Flyover Project. A few remaining tasks, including permanent lane striping, sign placement and barrier installation, will require ongoing lane closures until the project concludes on May 12.

Safety Reminder:
DOTD appreciates your patience and we would like to remind drivers to exercise caution and drive with care through construction sites. Please be mindful of work crews and their equipment, and adhere to all posted signage and speed limits.
