Profile of System |
Jefferson Transit offers both fixed route and paratransit service on the Eastbank and Westbank of Jefferson Parish, and to the New Orleans Central Business District (CBD). The monthly fixed route pass may be used on any Jefferson Transit route for an unlimited number of rides. The one day pass is good on any fixed route bus during that calendar day. Jefferson Transit and the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), serving New Orleans, work together to coordinate both fixed route and paratransit services.
Jefferson Transit runs six routes on the Eastbank and seven on the Westbank. The Eastbank and Westbank systems connect on Jefferson Highway at Clearview Parkway and also in the New Orleans CBD at Loyola and Tulane. Eastbank routes connect with RTA routes in Kenner, as well as in New Orleans at City Park Avenue and Canal Boulevard, along Tulane Avenue, and at Claiborne Avenue and Carrollton Avenue. Westbank routes connect with RTA routes only in the New Orleans CBD.
The Wilty Terminal (Gretna) and the Walkertown Terminal (Marrero) serve as two hubs for the Westbank routes. Both terminals offer park and ride facilities. All facilities comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and are fully accessible. In addition, all fixed route buses are fully accessible.
MITS (Mobility Impaired Transit System) is operated by Jefferson Transit for those persons unable to use fixed route transit. MITS offers curb to curb service for those individuals who have been certified to ride the system. The MITS service fully complies with all requirements of the ADA. MITS provides three designated transfer locations for certified riders who need to transfer to RTA’s Lift/Dial-a-Ride paratransit services. Ride requests may be made up to one week in advance. |
