Plaquemine Ferry resumes service Monday

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced today that the Plaquemine Ferry has resumed service.

Ferry service had been suspended since Jan. 18 due to high Mississippi River stages.

On Jan. 8, DOTD crews built a higher elevation approach that allowed the ferry to remain open an additional week and to reopen one week sooner as river levels fall.

The operating hours for the Plaquemine Ferry are 4:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a second ferry in service from 3:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Weekend hours are 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Before traveling drivers are urged to call the toll-free Ferry Information line at 1 (888) 613-3779 for the status of the ferry, or visit the “Ferry Status” page on DOTD’s website.

Drivers can also access updates on the ferry through Twitter: @PlaquemineFerry.
