DOTD announces temporary closure of Airline Highway intersection for railroad repair work

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that US 61 (Airline Highway) in East Baton Rouge Parish will be closed at the Canadian National railroad track near Choctaw Drive from 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7.

This closure will allow Canadian National to replace the railroad tracks and repair the crossing. Airline Highway traffic will not be allowed through this area. Motorists should expect heavy traffic delays in the area and consider alternate routes.

The detour for this route is as follows:

Northbound Airline Highway traffic will detour west onto Tom Drive, then North onto Wooddale Boulevard, then East onto Greenwell Springs Road and back onto Airline Highway Northbound. Southbound Airline Highway traffic will detour west onto Greenwell Springs Road, then South onto Wooddale Boulevard, then east onto Tom Drive and back onto Airline Highway Southbound.

Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org.

Travelers can also sign up for MyDOTD, a web-based system that can be personalized based on locations and needed information. The information can be received via email. A MyDOTD account is not necessary to access the information on the MyDOTD portal.
