New Orleans, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a full closure of Interstate 610 westbound, beginning at 7 p.m., Friday night, November 13 ending Monday, November 16, 2015, at approximately 5 a.m. DOTD will be replacing ten expansion joints that span the entire roadway.
The work will require the removal of a portion of the roadway across I-610 to facilitate the installation of the new joints. Roadway materials, such as asphalt and concrete, may contract and expand with temperatures. The expansion joint allows for that movement to occur and helps maintain roadway continuity.
All traffic that would normally exit I-610 at Elysian Fields Avenue, N. Broad Street, or Paris Avenue should use the Chef Menteur Highway or Franklin Avenue exits. Traffic that would normally exit I-610 at Canal Boulevard should take I-10 West to the Florida Boulevard exit or the West End Boulevard exit. Eastbound I-610 will remain open.
All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
