BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that current and forecasted weather conditions may result in hazardous driving conditions on state roads and bridges throughout areas in the state. Motorists should use extreme caution when traveling today and into Sunday.

As rain continues, DOTD crews are monitoring road conditions and responding as necessary.

Motorists should watch for flooded roadways and avoid driving into standing or running water. Drivers should also follow these tips when driving during and after a rainfall event:

• slow down, be attentive, and avoid driving distracted.
• allow for extra driving time and additional room between vehicles.
• reduce speed when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Do Not Use your Cruise Control when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Be alert for DOTD, other state, and local responders’ equipment and workers performing work on the bridges and roadways.

As always, DOTD reminds motorists to buckle up and refrain from drinking and driving.

Motorists are encouraged to check the status of road conditions prior to beginning commutes by utilizing the following resources for the latest information regarding road conditions:
