BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that the non-profit America Responds with Love, Inc., along with the Van Zyverden Bulb Company, has donated approximately 1 million plant bulbs to DOTD to distribute to local non-profits and municipalities across the state.

The contribution supplies bulbs to DOTD for the fall and spring planting seasons to engage non-profits and local municipalities in community beautification. Since 2009, the program has made enhancements across the state to community groups to beautify public spaces such as right of ways, medians, street corners and parkways. In 2012, DOTD distributed more than 300,000 bulbs across the state.

“DOTD is proud to have wonderful community partners such as America Responds with Love and the Van Zyverden Bulb Company. Their commitment to beautify Louisiana’s public spaces positively impacts the lives of area residents, visitors, businesses and institutions,” said DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas.

In the spring, DOTD will receive a second donation from the America Responds with Love, Inc. for summer planting. Organizations and municipalities interested in participating in the beautification program can contact Ray Lemoine, Roadside Development Manager, Louisiana DOTD, P.O. Box 5945, Alexandria, LA 71307-5945. Schools, local governments and non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply.
