BATON ROUGE – The Department of Transportation and Development warns motorists of weekend traffic delays due to a current project on Interstate 10 near Grosse Tete in Iberville Parish through the end of August. Last weekend, DOTD began lane closures on both side of the Interstate on I-10 around exit 139.

A closure is scheduled for the left westbound lane beginning Friday, July 17 at 8 p.m. through Monday, July 20 at 6 a.m. one quarter mile past exit 139.

During construction, motorists are encouraged to use the designated detour below.

Since some work areas are located at the approaches, the transitions between roadway pavement and a bridge/overpass, the work requires a more complex process which needs more time than a typical overlay construction.

The $6.3 million resurfacing project, located on I-10 from Ramah to the West Baton Rouge Parish line, will resurface approximately 6.3 miles of I-10. Work started February 2015 and it is expected to be completed by winter 2015.

Prior to travel, DOTD encourages motorists to utilize resources like the 511 Traveler Information System. This allows motorists to access up-to-date information about road conditions, construction activities and other critical incidents by dialing 511 from any telephone. The voice-activated 511 Traveler Information System is available to most wireless and landline telephone users. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information System Website at

Travelers can also sign up to MyDOTD, a web-based system that can be personalized, at any time, based on locations and needed information. The information can be received via email. A MyDOTD account is not necessary to access travel information.

Lastly, traffic cameras for the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Hammond/Northshore, Houma, Lake Charles, Monroe/West Monroe, New Orleans, Shreveport/Bossier and surrounding areas also may be viewed from the 511 site, or at
