DOTD TRANSPORTATION BULLETIN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEATHER RELATED PRESS RELEASE – Thursday, April 16, 215 3:22p.m.
The Department of Transportation and Development District 08 Office in Alexandria is urging motorists to use EXTREME caution when traveling on roadways this evening and tomorrow. All parishes in Central Louisiana are under a Flash Flood Warning. The National Weather Service doppler radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area. The rainfall is occurring very rapidly at times and can quickly cover roadways. Runoff from this excessive rainfall may cause flash flooding to occur. Motorists should drive slowly and carefully, avoid driving while distracted and watch for flooded roadways. Always allow for extra driving time, reduce speeds when visibility is low, and make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
High Water Roadway Closures may occur overnight. DOTD has crews in place to address these issues as they occur.
Call (318) 561-5100 or (800) 542-3509 or 511 or visit www.511LA.org for additional information. Motorists may also monitor the LA DOTD website, www.dotd.la.gov, selecting MYDOTD, the LA DOTD Facebook page, or the LA DOTD Twitter page, @Alex_Traffic for further information
