Lane closures planned for U.S. 90 railroad overpass in Broussard

BROUSSARD, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the northbound left lane of the U.S. 90 railroad overpass in Broussard will be closed Sunday, Jan. 4 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., as well as on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 5 and 6 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Crews will be installing temporary sheet piles to prepare for construction of a new, wider overpass. Oversized loads will not be permitted to pass through the work zone and must use alternate routes that include La. 89, La. 182, La. 352 and La. 31.
All construction activities are weather dependent, and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Current work underway on U.S. 90 in Broussard is part of DOTD’s Geaux South program. Construction crews are widening U.S 90 to six-lanes from Albertson Parkway to north of the Ambassador Caffery intersection. The project also includes construction of a U.S. 90 overpass above Albertson Parkway, a new railroad overpass, and modification of the adjacent frontage roads. Work on the project is slated for completion in mid-2017.
The Geaux South program is a $3 billion multi-year construction initiative to convert approximately 160 miles of the current U.S. 90 corridor to Interstate 49 South. When completed, I-49 will extend from the current terminus at I-10 in Lafayette to the West Bank Expressway in New Orleans.
The Geaux South program will support economic growth, improve access, reduce traffic congestion, and improve connectivity throughout the state’s transportation system. Completion of the work will also improve travel times for commuters, enhance safety, and facilitate evacuation efforts in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster.
