BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced left turns and through movements at the intersection of East Boyd Drive and Burbank Drive have been reinstated. This coincides with the permanent removal of the signal at this location. Left turns and through movements were reinstated as a result of improvements to the line of sight after the removal of trees along Burbank Drive. In addition, drivers were given time to adjust to the intersection operating without a signal and to utilize the signalized left turns offered at other roadways in the area.

In July, the signal was deactivated and replaced with a stop sign prohibiting left turns and through traffic from East Boyd to Burbank. Installing the signals on Burbank further apart will help relieve congestion on the heavily traveled Burbank Drive. Additionally, forcing drivers to make left-hand turns at Jennifer Jean and West Parker, where there are signals, created a safer left-turn situation.

Drivers are still encouraged to use the signalized intersections at Jennifer Jean Drive and West Parker Boulevard to turn left onto Burbank Drive in order to maintain traffic flow and eliminate backups at the East Boyd intersection. Left turns from Burbank Drive onto East Boyd Drive will still be permitted from the newly installed center turn lane.

This is part of a project that was designed to improve safety and traffic flow on Burbank Drive. Other work done during the project included:

• Installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Burbank Drive and West Parker Boulevard including pedestrian signals
• Restriping Burbank Drive from a 4-lane roadway to a 5-lane roadway with a center turn lane
• Reconstructing the signal at Burbank Drive and Jennifer Jean Drive and adding pedestrian signals
• Clearing land at the corner of Burbank Drive and East Boyd Drive to improve sight distance and extending the sidewalk along Burbank
