BROUSSARD, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the southbound left lane of U.S. 90, between Celebrity Drive and Albertson Parkway, will be closed for construction work beginning Monday, August 18.

During the closure, two travel lanes will remain open at all times and emergency vehicles will have access to the area as construction crews build temporary travel lanes in the median in preparation for an upcoming traffic shift. Drivers are reminded to be alert for construction workers, their vehicles and equipment.

As part of DOTD’s Geaux South construction program, this $57.1 million effort will widen U.S 90 to six-lanes from Albertson Parkway to north of the Ambassador Caffery intersection in Broussard. The project will also include construction of a U.S. 90 overpass above Albertson Parkway, a new railroad overpass, and modification of the adjacent frontage roads. Work on the project is slated for completion in mid-2017.

Geaux South is a $3 billion multi-year construction program that will convert approximately 160 miles of the current U.S. 90 corridor to Interstate 49 South. When completed, I-49 will extend from the current terminus at I-10 in Lafayette to the West Bank Expressway in New Orleans.

The Geaux South program will facilitate economic growth, improve access, reduce future traffic congestion, and improve connectivity throughout the state’s transportation system. Completion of the project will improve the daily commute for workers by decreasing travel time and enhancing safety. Additionally, the planned improvements will allow local governments to evacuate residents easier in the event of a natural disaster.
