DOTD deactivates flashing signal at intersection of East Boyd Drive and Burbank Drive
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced today the deactivation of the flashing signal at the intersection of East Boyd Drive and Burbank Drive. This is in response to congestion and safety issues related to drivers stopping at the flashing yellow light.
Removal of the signal will improve traffic flow at this intersection and eliminate congestion caused by the flashing signal. Originally, DOTD planned to keep the flashing light in place for approximately 30 days, while crews prepared to restripe the intersection and remove the signal.
DOTD would like to remind drivers that they are now only able to turn right from East Boyd Drive onto Burbank Drive. Through movements and left turns are prohibited. Drivers wanting to turn left onto Burbank Drive should use the signalized intersections at Jennifer Jean Drive and West Parker Boulevard. Left turns from Burbank Drive onto East Boyd Drive will still be permitted from the newly-installed center turn lane.
This is the final piece of a project that was designed to improve safety and traffic flow on Burbank Drive. Other work done during the project included:
• Installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Burbank Drive and West Parker Boulevard including pedestrian signals
• Restriping Burbank Drive from a 4-lane roadway to a 5-lane roadway with a center turn lane
• Reconstructing the signal at Burbank Drive and Jennifer Jean Drive and adding pedestrian signals
• Clearing land at the corner of Burbank Drive and East Boyd Drive to improve sight distance and extending the sidewalk along Burbank
