DOTD reminds drivers of new configuration at intersection of East Boyd Drive and Burbank Drive
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development would like to remind drivers of the recently implemented “right turn only” restriction at the intersection of East Boyd Drive and Burbank Drive. The work is part of a project designed to improve safety and traffic flow on this section of Burbank Drive, which includes removing the signal at this intersection.
For approximately 30 days, the following three changes will be in place while crews prepare to restripe the intersection and remove the signal. The changes went into effect on Tuesday, July 8.
• On Burbank Drive, the signal has been changed from normal operations to “flashing yellow” light
• On East Boyd Drive, the signal has been changed from normal operations to “flashing red” light
• Additionally, on East Boyd Drive, a new stop sign has been installed indicating a right turn only restriction
Crews have placed message boards on East Boyd Drive in advance of the intersection alerting drivers of the new configuration.
When traveling on Burbank Drive, motorists do not need to stop at the flashing yellow signal, but should slow down and proceed through the intersection with caution. Drivers traveling on East Boyd Drive must stop at the flashing red signal and yield to traffic on Burbank Drive before turning right.
With the current set up, drivers are now only able to turn right from East Boyd Drive onto Burbank Drive. Through movements and left turns are prohibited. Drivers wanting to turn left onto Burbank Drive should use the signalized intersections at Jennifer Jean Drive and West Parker Boulevard. Left turns from Burbank Drive onto East Boyd Drive will still be permitted from the newly-installed center turn lane.
This is the final piece of a project that was designed to improve safety and traffic flow on Burbank Drive. Other work done during the project included:
• Installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Burbank Drive and West Parker Boulevard including pedestrian signals
• Restriping Burbank Drive from a 4-lane roadway to a 5-lane roadway with a center turn lane
• Reconstructing the signal at Burbank Drive and Jennifer Jean Drive and adding pedestrian signals
• Clearing land at the corner of Burbank Drive and East Boyd Drive to improve sight distance and extending the sidewalk along Burbank
