BATON ROUGE, La. – With the possibility of heavy rain and flooding in the forecast, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development urges motorists to use extra caution when traveling on roadways during hazardous weather conditions and to stay off the roads whenever possible.

At this time, DOTD will be monitoring the roadways for possible flooding and to close any roads if needed.

During severe weather conditions, motorists are encouraged to adhere to the following driving safety tips:

• Drive slowly and carefully
• Avoid driving while distracted
• Avoid driving through standing water
• Allow for extra driving time
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles

As always, DOTD reminds motorists to buckle up and refrain from drinking and driving.
