Baton Rouge, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development met with State Representative Johnny Berthelot, Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez, and Councilman Randy Clouatre to present a new safety measure to La. 935, also known as Stringer Bridge Road. The new safety measure involves installing flashing lights to the signs leading to Stringer Bridge Road. The installation is expected to be completed at the end of May.

In 2012, DOTD began to make several immediate safety improvements to the roadway which included:
  • Installing centerline rumble strips
  • Restriping the edge-lines of the roadway with reflective striping
  • Installing additional signage
  • Placing reflective tape on curve warning sign posts
  • Conducting a speed study, which concluded that the posted speed limit is appropriate for the roadway

After those enhancements were made, DOTD began a road safety study to look at long-term improvements, which led to the new flashing lights.

DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas said, “Our number one priority is safety. We believe that the addition of flashing lights combined with completed safety improvements will make this roadway safer.”

State Representative Johnny Berthelot stated, “Thanks to DOTD for all their concern and efforts to enhance the safety of this area.”

“This is great news,” added Parish President Tommy Martinez. “We appreciate the continued efforts by DOTD in making this a safer roadway.”

Since 2012, only two crashes have been reported. One was a collision with a cow, and the other was a hit-and-run reported by a witness who said the driver was speeding and hit a sign and a mailbox.
