DOTD completes $8.7 million resurfacing project in St. Tammany Parish

MANDEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development recently completed an $8.7 million project, resurfacing 2.7 miles of U.S. 190 from Interstate 12 to La. 22. The work began in August 2013 and was completed under budget, in late January.
The project added a northbound auxiliary lane between I-12 and Fairway Drive and between Fairway Drive and La. 22, and a southbound auxiliary lane between I-12 and Fairway Drive to reduce merging traffic for the 67,000 vehicles a day that use this main artery during morning and evening commutes. The completion of this project will give southbound commuters direct access to Judge Tanner Boulevard and Fairway Drive from I-12 westbound, and northbound commuters direct access to I-12 eastbound from La. 22 and Judge Tanner Blvd./Fairway Dr.
Other route upgrades included the replacement of all the existing directional and informational signs and overhead/cantilever truss signs and supports. The project also added asphalt guardrail pads at 18 locations, new thermoplastic pavement markings and reflectorized pavement markers for more enhanced visibility at night, and added edge line rumble strips for safety.
Funding for the project included approximately $5.4 million in federal funding and approximately $3.3 million in state funding.
