BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that Burbank Drive, between Nicholson Drive and Burbank Commons Apartments, will be restriped to add a center turn lane. Work will begin Thursday, November 7, at 8 p.m., and finish Monday, November 11, at 6 a.m., and will coincide with LSU’s Fall Break when traffic volume is low.

The $28,000 restriping project will change the current configuration which consists of two 12-foot lanes in each direction. The new configuration will have a 10-foot outside lane and a 9-foot inside lane on each side with a new 10-foot center turn lane. The additional turn lane will relieve congestion by providing a dedicated turn lane out of the way of through traffic, increasing flow and creating a safer environment by reducing crashes.

One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times during the construction. Drivers should use caution when in the area and pay close attention to work crews and striping changes. Flaggers and message boards will provide drivers with direction during the construction period. Access to businesses, apartments, and parking during construction will not be affected.
