Judge Seeber Bridge update
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 10:04:16 AM

The Judge Seeber Bridge Maintenance Project has been extended until June 1.

During the process of refurbishing the mechanical drive systems, we found extensive damage in the structural bearing areas supporting the motors and gearboxes.  We have begun fabricating new bearing plates, which are necessary before reinstalling the mechanical drive system.

This is a typical occurrence when dealing with our aging draw bridges.  Once you start making repairs you begin to find more issues that need to be addressed before you can put the bridge back into safe operation.

DOTD strives to identify all the necessary work before the project begins, but when the bridge is completely out of service for an extended period, and pieces are removed our continued inspections discover further damage.

Our crews will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible to complete this phase of the bridge. We thank you for your patience and co-operation during this repair project.
