BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold a public meeting for the Prospect Street Bridge Replacement Project on Wednesday, May 5, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Terrebonne Parish Council Government Tower, located at 8026 Main Street in Houma.

The meeting is being held to allow the public to learn more about the project and to sign-up to receive periodic e-mail updates on the project’s progression.

Work on the $26.7 million project involves replacing the existing two-lane vertical lift span bridge on La. 3087 over Bayou Terrebonne with a new six-lane vertical lift span bridge. In addition, portions of Main Street and Prospect Street will be widened to accommodate the new bridge lanes. The widened bridge and intersections will help to relieve congestion in this heavily-traveled area. Over 18,000 drivers cross the bridge each day.

Work on the project will begin on May 24 and last until spring 2012.

The bridge will be closed for the duration of the construction. Representatives from DOTD and James Construction Group LLC will be in attendance to provide information on the new bridge, and to highlight the benefits of the project and the collaborative efforts in place to ease challenges throughout construction.

For questions or to sign up to receive periodic e-mail updates about the project, contact DOTD’s Customer Service Center at 1-877-4LA-DOTD (1-877-452-3683) or by e-mail at dotdcs@la.gov.
