Project Update
April 12, 2009
Causeway Interchange Phase 1 began in April 2009 and will be complete in winter 2010. Phase 2 began in November 2009 and will be complete summer 2012.
Work continues on concrete footings, columns, and decks for the new North Causeway Boulevard to I-10 west on-ramp. The on-ramp is completed over I-10 and will soon join the existing on-ramp.
Work continues on the new I-10 West to North Causeway exit ramp including driving piles and constructing concrete foundations. This ramp is progressing north from I-10 and is reaching Veterans Blvd. The large steel girders over the Veterans exit will finish April 2010.
Crews continue work on the foundation for the new North Causeway to Veterans off-ramp and the ground level portion of this ramp.
Lastly, work continues in the northwest quadrant of the interchange on the new I-10 West off-ramp to Southbound Causeway and the I-10 West on-ramps from southbound Causeway and Veterans. The work underway includes installation of sand and stone roadway base, driving piles, construction of concrete foundations, drainage structures, and sewer and water pipes.
CURRENT LANE AND RAMP CLOSURES
The North I-10 Service Rd. just east of Causeway is closed at Southbound Causeway Blvd. until late May/June 2010. The closure is between 25th and 27th Streets.
• Veterans and Southbound Causeway traffic: Detour to Severn to access the service road.
• Access to 25th Streets (dead end) will be maintained from southbound Causeway.
• Access 26th Streets from Athania Pkwy.
• To access 27th Streets and service road businesses, enter Service Rd. at Severn.
Groun- level Northbound Causeway reduced to one lane for several months and U-turn north of Veterans closed.
• Alternate route for Westbound I-10: Exit at Bonnabel to West Esplanade to Causeway.
• Alternate Route for Westbound Veterans: Instead of continuing on Causeway through Veterans, turn right onto eastbound Veterans and U-turn to go west.
The U-turn south of Veterans leading to Southbound Causeway is closed. Motorists headed to the I-10 Service Rd. should exit at Clearview Parkway.
The North Causeway exit to Veterans exit remains closed. North Causeway traffic is re-directed over Veterans where they U-turn to return to Veterans. Additionally, I-10 westbound to North Causeway traffic is re-directed to ground-level Causeway and re-enter Causeway north of Veterans. Upon the completion of the installation of the steel girders in April 2010, the exit will be open and westbound traffic heading north on Causeway will once again use the Veterans overpass.
The right lane of eastbound Veterans is closed at Causeway until late April 2010.
Motorists should expect delays, and we ask that you proceed through the project with caution. Be on the lookout for flaggers and construction traffic entering and exiting the highway, side streets and driveways.
Traffic entering and exiting some streets, driveways, businesses and subdivisions will be temporarily inconvenienced while construction continues. If your business or residence has two entrances/exits, one entrance/exit may be closed temporarily during construction operations, but the other entrance will remain open allowing access to your business or residence. If your business has one entrance/exit, we will maintain traffic in and out of the business or residence while crews work across the driveway.
All above mentioned work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather. Please see public notices for exact times, dates and cancellations.
