BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold two public meetings for the Judge Seeber Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the St. Bernard Government Complex Building located at 8201 West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, La. The second meeting will be held on Thursday, March 18, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Martin Luther King Elementary, 1617 Caffin Avenue, New Orleans, La.
The meetings are being held to allow the public to learn more about the project and to sign-up to receive periodic e-mail updates on the project’s progression. Representatives from DOTD will be in attendance to provide information on the project and answer any questions. In addition, the Port of New Orleans will be present to answer any questions about the Florida Avenue and St. Claude Avenue bridges.
The Judge Seeber Bridge will close for approximately two months beginning March 15 and lasting until the beginning of May. DOTD advises that the completion date is subject to change to allow for the final portion of the project, bridge re-decking, to commence mid-summer when traffic is less heavy and school is not in session.
Work on the $6.8 million rehabilitation project includes replacing the wire ropes that raise and lower the bridge, refurbishing the bridge’s electrical system, replacing damaged beams that were struck by vessels and oversized trucks and replacing the bridge decking to improve skid resistance and eliminate the wave-action in the riding surface of the bridge. In addition, advanced signal notification features will be installed to provide warning to motorists when the bridge is about to be raised for marine traffic.
