DOTD to hold public meeting for Garrett Road Connector project
Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 9:23:04 AM

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold a public meeting for an upcoming project designed to improve the connection between Kansas Lane and Garrett Road in eastern Monroe on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 4:30 p.m at the Monroe City Council Chambers, located at 400 Lea Joyner Expressway in Monroe.

The primary needs to be addressed by the project are the existing and future traffic congestion in the vicinity of the Pecanland Mall and mobility limitations for travel over the Kansas City Southern (KCS) Railroad along Millhaven Road (La. 594). The purpose of the project is to improve traffic operations, north-south mobility, and intra-region connectivity to I-20, consistent with the inner loop project plans adopted in the City of Monroe Master Plan. Improvements are anticipated to have corresponding benefits of better emergency access to hospitals north of Millhaven Road, increased travel safety, and enhanced access to the Garrett Road retail region.

The open house will provide preliminary information about the project and the environmental assessment process. Exhibits and graphic displays will be available for viewing at any time from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. DOTD representatives will be available to answer questions and to receive comments from the public. Verbal comments will be recorded during the open house, and written comments will also be accepted. Written statements can also be mailed to Garrett Road Project Manager, ARCADIS, 10352 Plaza Americana Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Statements postmarked within 15 days of the meeting will become part of the record of the open house.

Anyone who requires special assistance due to a disability and wishes to participate in this public meeting, should contact DOTD by mail at the address shown below or by telephone at 225-242-4502 at least five days prior to the date of the open house.
