"
In addition to repairing and resurfacing many streets in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes through the Submerged Roads Program, DOTD is proud to partner with the Department of Public Works and Regional Planning Commission in an important effort to transition New Orleans into a more bicycle-friendly city. Approximately $10 million in Transportation Enhancement Funding from the stimulus bill will be used to provide 13 miles of new bicycle facilities in Gentilly, Carollton and the Central Business District," said DOTD Deputy Secretary Sherri LeBas.
Seven of the 10 streets being repaired in the Central Business District will receive additional enhancements as a result of stimulus funding. These enhancements include sidewalk improvements, bike lanes and landscaping.
The South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program is 100-percent funded through the Emergency Relief Program of the Federal Highway Administration. The program includes more than 50 street projects in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes with an investment of more than $100 million.
