NEW ORLEANS – The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced Thursday that drivers should expect lane and ramp closures on I-10 eastbound and westbound between Bonnabel and Clearview for the next two Sundays and several nights next week to allow construction crews to install steel girders over I-10 as part of the I-10/Causeway Boulevard Interchange Project. The steel girders will serve as the North Causeway to I-10 westbound on-ramp when complete.

On Sunday, Aug. 23, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., I-10 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in both directions between Bonnabel and Clearview.  Traffic will be diverted off I-10 at the Causeway exit and will be forced to proceed through the exit onto the collector road before returning to I-10. Drivers should use Airline Drive (U.S. 61) as an alternate route.

Several on-ramps will also close on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Drivers should note that all off-ramps will remain open at this time. The I-10 eastbound on-ramp from Southbound Causeway will close, and  drivers will be forced to continue south on Causeway to Airline Drive, and turn left on Airline to enter I-10 east.  The I-10 westbound on-ramp from Northbound Causeway also will close, and drivers will be required to exit on Veterans from northbound Causeway, proceed north to the light on Veterans, make a u-turn under the overpass to return on Southbound Causeway and re-enter I-10 west. The I-10 westbound on-ramp at Bonnabel will close, and drivers should use Veterans to enter I-10 at Clearview.

On Sunday, Aug. 30, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a total closure of I-10 eastbound between Clearview and Bonnabel.  Drivers should use Airline Drive as an alternate route.  Local traffic will be able to use the Causeway on- and off-ramps.
