NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that the Lower Algiers/Chalmette ferry crossing will be closed at 6 p.m. Friday until further notice because of repairs that need to be made on the ferry landing.

While conducting a routine inspection of the landing today, department staff found that some of the ferry landing’s pilings were in need of repair.

The department will announce next week how long the ferry will remain closed. Regular operating hours for the ferry are 6 a.m. until 8:45 p.m., 7 days a week.
