BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that grant applications are available for private non-profit organizations and certain public entities that transport individuals with disabilities to and from jobs and employment support services. Those interested should submit a letter requesting an application by July 31 to the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The funds are available through Federal Transit Administration’s Section 5317 New Freedom Program. Only organizations that currently provide transportation services will be considered for funding assistance, according to DOTD Secretary William D. Ankner, Ph.D. All minority transportation organizations are encouraged to apply.

The New Freedom Program aims to provide tools for Americans with disabilities who seek integration into the work force and full participation in society, including new public transportation services and public transportation alternatives beyond those required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

Interested organizations should submit a letter by July 31 requesting the 5317 application.
